10/04/2008 - This is the 'real' Africa.  The river is banked by untamed wilderness full of dangerous animals, and the rapids are enormous, difficult and risky to scout - this river is not for the faint hearted.

One of the most mentally demanding rivers in the world, the Murchinson section of the White Nile holds class 5+ big water - full of giant crocs and hippos waiting in the flat pools between rapids.  Rush Sturges, Lane Jacobs, Anton Immler and Tyler Bradt bucked up and put on this beast of a river and 3 days later safely arrived at the takeout after a couple nights of restless sleep, a few terrifyingly close croc chases, and one swim (something that is pretty incredible to have survived on this river)...
